• Up to $1,500 in summer earnings is awarded to each Bonner Scholar who completes his/her required summer service expectation.
• In addition to your Bonner summer stipend, you may be paid for your summer service work by your service site.
• Up to $2,000 will be available to Scholars to cover summer living expenses.
  • The first summer, the student will have $1,000 available in their summer living account to draw upon. Any unused summer living funds from the first summer will remain in their account for their second summer of service.
  • During the second summer, another $1,000 will be available for the student's summer living expenses, in addition to any funds left over from the previous summer.
• This summer living policy has been established to allow Bonner Scholars to budget their summer service support. Therefore, Bonner Scholars may choose to access less summer living funds in their first and/or second summer of service so that they have more available for their second and/or third summer of service.
  • For example, a Bonner Scholar may spend his/her first summer of service in their hometown and, therefore, might request only $250 of summer living expenses, leaving $750 in his/her account. As this Bonner Scholar plans his/her second summer of service, they can now develop their summer living budget knowing that they will have up to $1,750 available to help cover expenses.
    • By carrying over funds from the first summer to the second and/or third, you may be able to do a summer of service in another state, because these funds will help cover flights and housing.

*Note: Rising senior Bonner Scholars may apply for an additional $500 from the Rising Senior Summer Enrichment Fund.

For Bonner Leaders:

• Bonner Leaders my apply for a Summer Service Internship or a Local Summer Service Internship.
• Summer Service Internships:
  • Available for Leaders who plan on completing their service in a location other than Danville or their hometown.
  • Travel and summer stipends are available for students participating in full-time summer service organizations in the amount of $2,500.  Selections will be based on the quality of the student’s performance as a Bonner, the relevance of the experience to the student’s development, and the on-going nature of the relationship with the hosting organization.
• Local Summer Service Internship:
  • Available for Leaders who plan on completing summer service in Danville or their hometown.
  • Internships available for students to work at a local agency or at an agency that serves as the student’s service site during the school year. $1,500 per intern is available for summer living expenses, stipends and/or resources for the sponsoring community organization.
