Summer of Service Opportunities:
Danville, KY
From Paul Muth, Community Services Director at Ephraim McDowell Health:
- I am starting to recruit hard for my verb summer program. The planning is already up and going for next year, so if anyone wanted to jump on board now, they could really be in it from the start and work with the planning on a regional scale. My goal would be to have two scholars to work as a team and have them out leading programs and field games with kids every day all summer. Josh Blair did a great job with that last summer and I think we could amp up what he did by a huge amount. We would still bring them in on the health screenings, etc... but the real success last summer was getting him out to the pools, YMCA, leading activities.
- Another opening I am advocating for is a summer position leading the clay/art studio at the community arts center. We need someone to staff the classes and keep the studio available to the summer camps, and adult student group we are trying to build. Ideally that would be a person also interested in a place to work in clay all summer too.

Scottsville, KY
From Charlotte Beales, Program Coordinator at Center for Courageous Kids:
- We’re hiring for a few different positions– den counselor, archery, arts & crafts, lifeguarding (lakefront and pool), cooking, fun & games (which is the gym and climbing wall), and woodshop. Den Counselors spend the day with their assigned group of children, attending activities, eating meals, and everything else with them! DCs have a co-counselor and up to eight kids in their group, and also have volunteers assigned to their cabin each week. Program counselors (all the activities listed above) plan and facilitate an activity area, and have an assigned cabin when their activity isn’t running.
- Orientation begins for program counselors on May 24th and Den Counselors on May 27th. Sessions are five or six days long, and during six day sessions, staff receive one night off (dinner that night until breakfast the next morning). Most sessions have a two-day break in between, with the exception of two that only have a one day break. We also have extended time off (about four days) at the fourth of July. Staff depart on August 5.
